Epidemiology and Population Health

Epidemiology and Population Health is the scientific study of the patterns of distribution of disease in populations, the identification of antecedents and risk factors, and the measurement of outcomes or effects of treatment in whole populations.

Prof. Carr is an internationally recognised schizophrenia researcher, with more than 30 years’ experience in mental health research.

Prof. Carr oversees the Schizophrenia Research Library, and is currently leading a longitudinal study of child development to identify vulnerability and resilience factors at a population level that may be related to the later onset of mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, as well as other problems in young people.

He is currently Professor in the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales and has previously been Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Newcastle where he was also Director of Hunter Mental Health Services and Director of the Centre for Brain and Mental Health Research.

A new spotlight on brain research

Professor Ulrich Schall has been appointed to the first Chair of Schizophrenia Research in Cognitive Neuroscience in Australia. The Chair is a partnership of the Schizophrenia Research Institute and the University of Newcastle.
