Developmental Neurobiology Panel

Aim

The aim of the Developmental Neurobiology Panel is to identify the key neurodevelopmental processes that are aberrant in schizophrenia and to understand how variation in susceptibility genes and susceptibility environments both independently and interactively impact these neurodevelopmental processes.

This will be achieved by identifying important gaps in our knowledge base and supporting research using animal models, human brain, neural cell culture and genomics that aims to fill those gaps. The Panel will develop and support collaborative neuroscience research projects that incorporate distinct technical approaches to answering common questions across SRI-supported laboratories.

The Panel also aims to develop additional tools for researchers by making novel schizophrenia-relevant genetically modified mice, to develop additional schizophrenia-relevant behaviour and cognitive tests in rodents and to create a library of schizophrenia-relevant molecular probes and antibodies.

Ultimately, the Panel aims to accelerate discovery into the cause(s) of schizophrenia.
